Trash is all around us, in places we never intended—beaches, roadsides, and the natural spaces between and beyond. Barry Rosenthal collects these errant discarded remnants of our lives, amasses them into themes, and then turns them into environmentally minded fine art. For The Grid, he edited his collection of beach trash to a specific colour palette and created an organized visual structure. Temporarily useful to the people they once served, objects such as these remain in the environment for years, to its great and lasting detriment.
Rosenthal, a fine art photographer, is also an urban archaeologist and sculptor. At the intersection of these fields is his Found in Nature series, which includes The Grid.
