Kamisaka Sekka (Japanese, 1866–1942)
Autumn Maple, n.d.
Rinpa school revivalist Kamisaka Sekka created prints, ceramics, lacquerware, and textiles with subjects based on deep artistic tradition—in modern, bold designs. When the Japanese government sent Sekka to Europe in the early twentieth century, he took influence from Art Nouveau and introduced its elements in his work.
