This traditional Japanese cucumber variety produces sweet, refreshing fruits with very few seeds and no bitterness, perfect for salads, sushi, sunomono (Japanese cucumber salad), and light pickling, ‘Bon Odori’ is a reliable and productive variety well suited to UK gardens and greenhouses.
Unlike thicker-skinned varieties, Japanese cucumbers are delicate and tender, making them ideal for eating straight from the vine. Their refreshing flavour pairs beautifully with rice dishes, seafood and summer meals.
Sowing Time:
Sow indoors from April to May. Transplant after risk of frost has passed.
Position:
Full sun in a greenhouse or a warm, sheltered outdoor spot.
Soil Type:
Rich, well-draining soil with plenty of organic matter.
